Coming in to land

A small fishing boat came into Nelson Bay wharf and a gang of pelicans flew in hopeful of some fish. This one did a bit of a belly flop.

This morning started off really sunny and then this afternoon the sky went black the wind whipped up and it has started raining. Someone somewhere has had a storm, but the majority of it has missed us. We have only had a few spots of rain here. Maybe more to come.
A perfect three point landing! What a lovely shot Babs.

When I got home today my husband said we had rain all morning, quite heavy rain, however at work in the city we hardly got any. Great action shot - it must be hard to stop quickly when you are a pelican.

Great that you have captured the trail he has left in the water and obviously still has the brakes on.

Don't think it was a pelican in the film, but this made me think of The Rescuers. Nice timing. :)

@steampowered Thanks Paul. A fishing boat had just arrived at the wharf and the pelicans were coming in left, right and centre in the hope of some fish.

@joluise It is hard for them to stop quickly you are right. This one was particularly heavy too which made life more difficult for him.

@paulaw The trail was a bit longer on his run in too, but I had to crop it in.

@gypsy6 Thanks Deb. don't you just love Melbourne weather.

@yaorenliu Thanks. I think the pelicans landing was a bit heavier than the Hudson River one though. This chap did a real belly flop at the end.

@angelat Thanks Angela. I love watching the pelicans they are real characters. The ones around here are so tame too.

Cool capture !

@streats Thanks Ian. Whenever a boat comes into the marina, pelicans arrive from all directions. I suppose in the UK you would get seagulls.

Awesome action capture! Love the water trail, and especially the pelican splash down! The pelicans look like they are especially fun birds to photograph.

@sunraye @huvesaker Thank you both so much. Pelicans are fun to take photos of. We get so many here and they are always so obliging in having their photo taken.

Yes Boo, well worth a visit. I have moved house 16 times and lived in 3 different countries and I am not moving again. Found the perfect spot now.
