Bushfire by onewing

Bushfire

It was 38 degrees C here yesterday and the temperature triggered this bushfire. It is still burning this afternoon, but I believe it is under control now.

This photo was taken from our local marina earlier this afternoon.

Yes, as we get into summer, this sight gets all too familiar.

Glad it's under control they can be so dangerous. Lovely shot of the marina.
November 2nd, 2014
It is fire season alright. We have had a few too.
November 2nd, 2014
Terrible bush fires, so dry and so much fuel :)
November 2nd, 2014
Frightening and it strikes me some of the water in the marina would not go amiss there.
November 2nd, 2014
@karlow75 It is very dry here at the moment.
November 2nd, 2014
@thistle Not sure if any houses have been lost in this fire. This time last year there was a fire in the same area and a few houses were lost in that fire.
November 2nd, 2014
@888rachel This is the third fire so far this season in our area.
November 2nd, 2014
@hermann After almost a month of rain in August, we have had very little rain since, so very dry here at the moment.

@quietpurplehaze They do water bomb the fires if they get really out of control, but I think this one is being dealt with from the ground.

Kat
Good to hear it's under control. Always a scary sight. Great capture. :)

It was 38C here today too Babs, it is DAMN HOT!! I really wish it would rain.
November 2nd, 2014
Thats Hot Babs, great shot.
November 2nd, 2014
Gosh that is hot.
November 2nd, 2014
Love the shot. It's still hot here too and it's supposed to be winter.
November 2nd, 2014
Great composition Babs, lovely depth of field and fine details, your warming up as we are cooling off, high of 11 degrees C in Lancashire today !!!
November 2nd, 2014
I hope no one was injured, it has made a dramatic documentary image though.
November 2nd, 2014
Goodness, I can't imagine what it must be like living with the constant threat of fires. Brings it home here in this shot as you don't tend to think of fires so close to the water.
November 2nd, 2014
Must be scary -- both to know such high temperatures are ahead and to know fire comes with them. Well captured too, to show the closeness and potential danger.
November 2nd, 2014
It must be horrible to wait in the season for word of fires and to know the danger the community could be in. In the early naughtiest Dave and I went to USA. At the end of the holiday we took a coach tour of the west and drove up into California after severe fires. It was terrible to see the devastation
November 2nd, 2014
@darthkitty Thanks Kat. This one wasn't too drastic.
November 2nd, 2014
@bella_ss Thanks. cooled down quite a bit this morning. Still no rain though.
November 2nd, 2014
@tonygig I have a feeling we are going to be in for a hot summer. Still Spring at the moment though.
November 2nd, 2014
@creampuff Cooled down again today, but still not raining.
November 2nd, 2014
@chimfa Anita said it has been quite mild in the UK this autumn too.
November 2nd, 2014
@pcoulson 11 degrees, that is almost tropical in the UK ha ha. I was there in April once and the temperature was 13 degrees and the chap who lives next door to my sister was wearing shorts and tee shirt. Ugh.
November 2nd, 2014
@jackie8 I haven't heard of any injuries due to the fire, but during the lightning storm on Saturday, a 15 year old chap was hit by lightning as he came out of the sea where he was surfing at one of our local beaches and died at the scene.
November 2nd, 2014
@paulaw As you can see there is a lot of bushland here, so it doesn't have to be dense forest to start a fire and when it is so dry it spreads so quickly. I suppose we have to endure fires and you endure blizzards.
November 2nd, 2014
@taffy @ceilidh Luckily the closest fire to us has been about 4 km away, we are not really in threat at home, but there is only one road down to The Bay and very often there are fires along Nelson Bay Road so we do get cut off from time to time if the fires jump the road.
November 2nd, 2014
Great capture of the smoke
November 2nd, 2014
Nice capture of the fire in the background and always love those marina shots!!!
November 2nd, 2014
Bush/forest fires are not a good thing. So difficult to get under control. Lovely shot of the marina. Water looks lovely.
November 3rd, 2014
Wow, only a sea away, we are freezing cold here and you are cooked there. It is lucky that it is under control.
November 3rd, 2014
Brush fires are pretty scary they can get out of control so quickly. I keep waiting for a drought warning to be issued, I've notice the lake and stream levels are way down.
November 3rd, 2014
Wonderful shot! I live in area of the world where bush fires do not exist, so to see those big plumes of smoke seems quite terrifying.
November 3rd, 2014
Oh dear, that is rather scary. Hope it's under control and that you won't have many more this summer.
November 3rd, 2014
And still a month before before the start of summer. It's going to be a stinker.
November 3rd, 2014
@bkbinthecity @eyesmile @kathiecb @yaorenliu @nanm @ukandie1 @kwiksilver @terryliv Thanks everyone. It has gone quite cool again now. They suspect arson for this fire and this time last year we had two fires locally and they were lit by two 13 year old boys. All they got was a reprimand and told not to do it again. Several homes were lost in the fires. I really don't know what the world is coming too. No cause and effect these days so the kids get away with murder. Oh Dear, get off the soap box Babs. It does infuriate me though.
November 4th, 2014
Oh gee, hope your place is OK.
November 5th, 2014
@karlow75 I so hope this season is better than last year
November 5th, 2014
@onewing it infuriates me too - I do not understand the lack of responsibility and lack of consequence - I am always on my soapbox about it
November 5th, 2014
So scary! Glad to hear that it is under control.
