I am posting early today now that we have finally got power back after the east coast low storm on Monday and Tuesday.
We were without power for 4 days and today I have got to stock up on groceries as we lost all of the stocks in our fridge and freezer due to the power outage.
I am not trying to trivialise the damage caused to so many places due to the weather over the last week, but after living with no electricity and more or less camping out at home for the last four days I have discovered that one thing you need in this life is a sense of humour, so this photo shows the minimal damage we sustained in the storm and thankful that it wasn't any worse.
You can see some of the branches from one of our trees in the top left picture and thankfully none of our trees came down. Could have been a lot worse.
The shade cloth and supports on our patio were totally dislodged and banged and crashed about for 2 days until we were able to secure it again.
On the right you can see that one of our wind chimes has only got one chime left. Where the rest of them are God only knows, we haven't been able to find them. They could be miles away.
Here are some of the other pictures which I have been filling in now that we have electricity and Internet again.
You do not appreciate electricity until you do not have it! Four days is a long time. Glad the damage was not extensive! And really happy that all is A-OK and you are safe!
Wow Babs! Just went and read about the storm you guys have suffered! So sorry to see that so much damage occurred, but so glad you're well and hopefully soon to move on with your normal everyday life!
Glad to hear that you are safe and suffered only minor damage. The weather is such a powerful force so often underestimated. I'm sure at times during the power outage even the sense of humour must have been tested.
Welcome back! Great collage to show your damage. And you still have your sense of humour which is terrific after 4 days of no electricity! It was such a devastating storm - hope all gets back to normal soon :)
Babs I can't imagine being that long without electricity. We were three weeks without water but at least they brought in lorry loads of bottled water water to use for drinking. So glad you haven't got too much damage and it will be great to have you back on 365
Glad you've survived the storm without too much damage, but 4 days without electricity is hard in this day and age. It looks as if you were quite creative in cooking etc.
Bet you're relieved that's over. Sorry to hear about the damage Babs, hope you can get things cleared up soon. How long was it before the novelty wore off?
@bella_ss Thanks Sheralee, yes we did stay warm the weather wasn't cold just a bit wild wind and rain. We have a wood burner fire though so would have been okay if the weather had turned cold.
I guess lack of reliable electricity is a First World problem, but, like you, when it happens there's a lot of make-do going on, and a lot of freezer stuff going out!
@golftragic You're not wrong, we did lose a lot of stuff from the fridge and freezer, but we did share it around before it all died. We had friends round for a candlelight dinner for a couple of nights to eat up the rapidly defrosting meals I had batch cooked previously, so we ate quite well. Bolognaise sauce, Moroccan lamb casserole, Beef curry, etc. Our friends ate quite well.
David's hard drive on his computer died as a result of the storm too, so that has gone in hopefully to be fixed. It's only money isn't it, we still have a house and a roof and we are a lot better off than some.
@onewing It's a tough lump to swallow, but you're quite right of course. When you look at the footage from Nepal, just for starters, our lifestyle problems fade into the background - not insignificance, but the background/nuisance value category. Looks like the knee Maggie re-modelled for me will need surgery. I'll email you.
Such devastation Babs so sorry to see all the damage, looks like your approaching it with the right attitude, at least you are both fit and well, the rest can be fix in time:)
@beachdog Thanks Barb. We were glad that we only lost branches from this tree and that the whole tree didn't come down. It is a huge blackbutt and would have caused havoc.
@onewing How wonderful that you have a wood fire, my sister near Toowoomba does too and I just love it when we go there and she has it going. Glad you didn't suffer too much.
@eyesmile Thanks Gena. After the last few days I have learned that a sense of humour is essential. Mind you being a Forces wife you have to develop a good sense of humour too. I think the motto used to be "If you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined". ha ha.

It isn't until the electricity comes back on after four days that you realize just how bright the lights are. I needed to get out the sunnies until I was acclimatised again. If I haven't caught up with your pictures yet I will catch up soon.
