Female Koel by onewing

Female Koel

Thanks to everyone who commented and fav'd yesterday's kookaburra photo.

We have quite a variety of birds visiting our garden and here is a female koel.

Koel's are cuckoo family birds and they deposit their eggs in other birds nests. Hopefully they pick a bird of similar size or some poor bird, if it is smaller, could be going like the clappers to feed a bird this size.
At least this bird knows which end to face towards the water !! lol !! A lovely shot Babs !!

Nice shot Babs. Does this lady come down often? They usually stay up in the trees and are very difficult to spot - despite the fact that their call is driving you nuts.

Terrific composition, Babs. Looks like the bird bath provides respite for many different ones.

very pretty feathers but I can never get to like cuckoo's. seems so selfish how they just leave their egg for some other bird to worry about.

Great shot. These birds are very good at delegation. They must be the managers of the bird world.

Great shot! Wonderful clarity.

Oh I do hope so too. Can only imagine some poor tiny bird wearing itself to the feather trying to feed a big greedy monster. But you've captured a lovely photograph of this pretty female.

Such a cute capture and clarity.

You have so many lovely and colorful birds. This is such a great shot...and what an interesting story to go with it. So another bird raises their hatchlings?

This is more like my cat's gesture when she saw a bigger animal.

@karlow75 Thanks Kane, you are right they are good at delegating.
December 2nd, 2015
@kategoring @merrelyn @yaorenliu Thanks, she was crouched down because she was drinking the water, but she still had her eye on me as I was taking the photo. She wouldn't let me get too close.

@chrysanthemum Thanks Christina, they are very naughty birds aren't they. I believe they do tend to select birds with similar eggs to theirs so as not to make the poor adoptees suspicious.

Beautiful spots!
