Going, Going, Gone by onewing

Going, Going, Gone

The gymea lily flower heads have now gone to seed. It will be a while before they are flowering again.

Each flower head can be up to 2 ft across (60 cm) and the flower spike can be as tall as 20 ft (6 metres). When in full flower they look like giant beacons.
@ft across. That's huge! Wouldn't be room of many in my garden. Interesting triptych

@golftragic They flower apparently when the whales are travelling north and again when they return to Antarctica. A bit like beacons for whales
November 15th, 2016
I remember you telling me about the whales and these flowers, and it was true for us this year. They are fabulous flowers, and very popular with the birds and bats.

How cool to see the process. In each state, it's quite an impressive image.
November 15th, 2016
Fantastic shots of its cycle. I'm sure I have seen some of these while up north.

Next time they are flowering I must get a photo of David standing next to a Gymea lily just to show how tall they are. This series of shots was taken from the top of the Gan Gan lookout, so not able to get a photo of David standing next to them. He wasn't game enough to climb down the side of the cliff just for a photo. No sense of adventure some people :)
