The main reason I took my camera along when we had lunch at Soldiers Point on Sunday was to take a photo of this artwork by sculptors Gillie and Marc Schattner.
This sculpture has only recently been placed at The Boat Shed Cafe close to the restaurant where we had lunch. Last time I was down there it was pouring with rain so I wasn't able to get a photo that day.
The plaque next to the sculpture reads -
Meet the awe-inspiring hybrid characters named Dogman an d Rabbitgirl created by Sydney based sculptors Gillie and Marc Schattner. These unique characters have arrived at Soldiers Point Marina to promote diversity, love and acceptance. As unlikely animal-kingdom companions, together they symbolise unity and acceptance; representing all people as one.
Dogman and Rabbitgirl invite the world to sit with them symbolically at their Table of Love and take a first step to understanding and loving one another. The Table of Love is where we sit, discuss, and solve problems, or even just enjoy a coffee and a cake.
The aim of the Table of Love is for complete strangers to join each other and sit down with Dogman and Rabbitgirl and start a conversation.
What a brilliant concept, I would love to sit with them and have a chat over cup of tea, lovely perspective, colour and clarity, great capture Babs, Fav:)
Beautiful shot and sculpture. A bit weird too. There is a similar sculpture in ceramics in Sliema where you are invited to sit down with 3 Maltese well-known actors.
@julzmaioro Not sure if there are any of their artworks in New Zealand but maybe. You could Google Gillie and Marc and see what comes up.
@paul10 I imagine quite a few people sit here and start a conversation with a stranger, we live in a very friendly neighbourhood and I am sure tourists would chat quite happily.
@gilbertwood There are a few of Gillie and Marc's artworks in and around Melbourne. I think a copy of this particular sculpture is at Guests Lane in Melbourne. If you look at the link you will see where some of the others are. https://www.traveleverywherewithlove.com/destinations
Gillie and Marc are based in Alexandria, Victoria so if you have been out there you will have seen one of their artworks on Bourke Street Alexandria.
Could be something out of a Lewis Carroll book. I wonder how many strangers actually converse at the table, or do people think that since it's art they shouldn't sit on it. Good shot.
What a brilliant notion! Anything...anything at all which encourages one to speak to another is what humanity is all about. The sooner we recognise one another as having ideas, opinions etc, to discuss, share etc....we might, might just make progress rather than moaning about our differences and disagreements.
