For the next few days I will be posting photos of the latest street art in Newcastle.
Local artist Rebecca Murray has been commissioned to paint murals on the telecommunication pillars across the Civic Precinct.
Quite a few of the telephone distribution boxes have been painted and so far I have spotted 12 of them. I first saw two back in March http://365project.org/onewing/365/2019-03-06
but have since gone back to Newcastle on a mission to find more. On my recent visit I saw another ten and they are the ones I will be posting this week. I believe there are three for four more for me to find. That will have to be on another visit though.
Known locally as 'pillar people' they really brighten up the normally grey dull looking pillars.
Wonderful idea to brighten up the dull objects and the streets ! Beautiful and creative paintings - my slant on things - the Bride looks shy - maybe up the duff !! Penguin looks as if he is a robber ! and the wee little girl skater very apprehensive of stepping out on the ice ! ha ha ! nice to be able to let the mind run riot while admiring these art works !!
I love when a city allows artists to do this. I seen this with fire hydrants, mail and hydro boxes. Such a great way to show off people's art work. These are so well done.
@beryl I love your interpretation of the pillar people Beryl.
@casablanca I like the penguin too. The bride is outside a group of shops selling bridal clothes and the penguin is outside a gentlemen's outfitters selling suits and bridegroom clothes. The significance of the penguin apparently is that he is wearing his formal penguin suit. The penguin is called Quentin.
All would brighten a dull day ...
