Had a play with one of my holiday shots which I thought would look good converted to B&W. I think this is high structure. For my mentoring group's comments if you have time. @taffy@newbank@888rachel@golftragic@sullivar
I was thrilled to see my greenfinch shot on the PP today - thank you all for getting it there!!
Hi Pam. This is a great composition -- I recognize the site from your posting in color. I may be wrong, but to me, this is a good example of high contrast. But not so much re structure, largely because the high contrasts ends up obscuring any details in the wood. If you look at the wood grain in the slat at about 11:45 (if it were a clock), you can see the grains really clearly. A high structure shot would emphasize graininess and texture. Where a high contrast shot emphasis the distinction between the dark and light tones. I hope this makes sense!
@taffy I think I am just confusing high contrast and high structure. When I look at both my shots I can see which is the high structure. I did the conversion and really liked the way it looked - wishful thinking in this case!! LOL!!
A rose by any other name etc … and it's a great shot with good visual impact. I too remember the colour version and find it quite amazing to see the difference in the moods and ambience of the two. I'm not too sure, but I see this shot as high contrast because, to my eye, the details are lost in the darker contrast. I'd be interested to see another version of this shot, it's such a great image it's worth looking at.
This is such a lovely striking high contrast shot. I remember absolutely loving this one in colour too. I agree with Taffy's comments, that it is not high structure, but it is a wonderful shot all the same!
