We were walking in Romsey this a.m. when one of two beautiful young black labs out for a walk leapt over the wall into the water at the mill race. She quickly realised she needed to get out and tried in vain to haul herself up onto a steep slab of concrete. Each time she got halfway up and then fell back down into the water, all the while getting closer to the mill race. Her owners rescued her by scrambling down the wall, pulling her out and manhandling her over the wall with the help of another dog owner. I have no shots of her trying to get onto the concrete as at the time I felt petrified this was going to end in tragedy. All's well that ends well etc..........
@yvnn Thank you Yvonne - so was I. It seemed almost obscene taking any shots at all as I really was not sure of a happy outcome.
At least no humans jumped into the water and got into trouble as sometimes happens in this scenario.
An exciting pictorial with a happy ending - how exciting and frightening at the same time. The capture highlights the strength of the current very well.
@gibnakebira@cleanfreak@rosiekind Thank you all for commenting. The lady owner pulled the dog out, just by its collar and I think she was lucky too as a wet labrador must be quite weighty. Everything happened so quickly and it was hard to believe that the dog jumped a wall of about 5-6 feet into the water.
@doblaine Yes it seemed exciting to begin with when I took the first shot of the dog swimming but I very quickly felt quite sick with fright seeing it trying unsuccessfully to get out - the water is very turbulent there.
How terrifying, I can feel the dogs and owner's anguish in the collage. You really did well to capture this, I think I would have dropped my camera! The collage really tells a story, and thank god it was a happy ending. I hate seeing animals get hurt in anyway.
@creativeamateur I think my camera is welded to me when I'm out taking photos! I had already taken some of the mill of the mill race before the incident and when the dog was trying to get out of the water I stood just frozen, willing it to get out!
