These security staff waited in vain all day on Tuesday for the scaffolding to go up onto the roof of Winchester Cathedral.

I saw on TV news that it finally happened the next day so they obviously had their busy moment then, keeping the spectators safe.

The repairs to the lead on the roof will take 2 years and form part of a £20m renovation scheme at the cathedral.

I always ask. They were happy to say yes but the young chap said he wasn't photogenic (hope I proved him wrong!) and I could tell he was a bit self conscious so this was just a quick shot. Relieved the boredom for a few minutes!
