Sometimes they get lucky..

In the newer mining area (which boasts 3 pubs and a golf course - great day out!!) the miners are not allowed to make many small mullock heaps. All of the material dug out has to be transported to these huge mounds which tower above the trees. This loose material does still contain some overlooked opals and both locals and tourists fossick through it trying their luck.

@nobled Thanks Dorothy - there was definitely a lot of stark scenes out there. But the sheer size of those mullock heaps was a bit off-putting for fossicking - so much rock!!
