we're hunting for "blue" and found this cross stitch of blue willow china that i made for a very good friend so many years ago.
today, i went to visit with my friend, ada, at her home. she and i have been friends for twenty-some years. when she and her husband bought their first home after they got married, i made this cross stitch project for her. the motif of her kitchen then was blue and white and this project was perfect. she had it framed with an oak frame that matched her dining set. this was the only wall decoration she had in her kitchen/dining room at the time and it garnered a lot of kudos from her visitors. she and her family had since moved to a bigger house and still, this holds a special place in her now spacious kitchen. when i saw it today, i felt like i was meeting an old friend for the first time. i had not recreated this pattern again, not even for myself and i so love blue willows. this is not my design but someone else's. but this particular project was made by me for a special friend and this holds a very special sentiment.
thank you for visiting and your comments; please know that i appreciate them so much. i will try to catch up with your postings tomorrow. in the meantime, good night, folks.
if you are so inclined, check out my other post for today: http://365project.org/summerfield/365/2012-01-06
How beautiful this is, summerfield. I can't imagine the hours of painstaking work that went into this. What a kind and loving person you are to do this for someone. Great photo of it. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)
@karenann - thank you, karenann. such flattering words. i have seen photos of this pattern a number of times, but now i can look at this because i know i was the one who made it and got to photograph it, too!
@bkbinthecity - thank you, brian. my friend and i have a very special friendship; we need not see each other all the time but somehow we know when the time is right to hang around together. it's a testament to the fact that friendship knows no age, race or cultural bounds.
@jannkc - thank you, jann. it is very special to her and it felt good!
stunning work and photo. what a wonderful read, too. i keep going back to look at the photo because it is so, so pretty. makes me long to pick up needle and thread. . .
@catsmeowb - remember new camera...remember new camera...but it is very pretty, looking at it yesterday, i still couldn't believe i had once the patience to do something like this. yes, makes me want to make a go of it again. no, not really! haha! thank you, camille. i hope you're feeling better.
You do beautiful work! It is really heart warming when something you make for someone remains special to them. How nice that she still places this gift in a place of honor. It is obvious it took you a lot of time to make it and I'm sure a lot of love went into every stitch! I've always like Blue Willow dishes too. I had one or two pieces at one time and gave them away to someone who also was doing her kitchen in blue and white. Lovely shot for blue!
@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. i'm right now changing my sheets to white and blue and at first i thought of making this again, but i had never made duplicates of my projects, plus i know i won't be able to finish it.
@cscecil - thank you, CS. it is a nice pattern, i can look for it and send you :-)
@olivetreeann - by jove! you are right! why was i thinking of going the hard route? or i can even have this photo enlarged and framed! brilliant! thank you, ann. :-)
