i don't know if anyone older than 30 has any recollection of this logo. i'm on a treasure hunt for "vintage" and looking through some of my stash i found this 'piggy' bank that belonged to my partner when he was a young boy in the early 50's.
many years ago, this was going to be thrown away, but i do remember this mobil oil logo so i rescued it from the garbage man's claws. my partner has no appreciation of things with sentimental value, i think he should be flogged with a wet noodle. he's lucky that he had this. growing up we were so poor we could hardly save anything and if we did, we used the empty cans of johnson's baby powder. and so, you might ask, why am i keeping this then when it's not mine. well, i was at an antique store once and something similar was selling for $55! i think i could sell this off for more than that. i just have to find the right buyer, haven't i?
not feeling too artistic these days, but cross processed in picnik made this old junk look older.
Love the look that you gave this photo . . and I'm sure that there's value to this little treasure. Love to go to antique stores and browse. My favorite kind of shopping. Great photo, summerfield.
@karenann - wow, karenann. another revelation: i love going browsing at antique stores! there's a 'sunday' market in downtown toronto where all they sell are vintage or antique stuff. thank you, karenann.
Definitely drop into antique stores or anywhere they sell vintage and look for similar items and see what they're priced at before you decide to sell. There is probably something on line too where you might be able to find out what this could sell for. Dealers will probably not give you what it's worth, so you might be better off selling it on your own on ebay or a website like that. Aside from all that, you really displayed and photographed it well. Looks great!
@olivetreeann - i know about those dealers. in the late 90's my partner's mother wanted to get rid of some old furniture in her house. she had in one of the bedrooms a double bed frame with vanity, chair and wardrobe. i knew that if the bed was fixed it would fetch a large amount of money for her. the other pieces were in mint condition because they were a family who took care of their belongings. a dealer paid them $700 for it. then one day, as a lark my partner and i went to the dealer's store and we saw the price tag on the set $4,500 and it had another tag that said "sold". i knew it was the same that was in the house because i had previously taken photos of the furniture pieces and they had this distinctive logo and serial number. had my partner not kicked himself, i'd have done so myself!
