according to freeman patterson in his book "photography and the art of seeing", there are two basic elements of design: tone and colour, which are both created by light. tonal contrast is influenced by the quality and direction of light. in black and white or monochromatic photos, the contrast of tones reveals and define lines.
the strong sunlight shines on this rose bush at the parkette near my apartment building.
we are bracing for some high humidex in the next couple of days. we need rain as the grass in front of my window is so parched, but partner makes sure that the rose bushes are sufficiently watered, thus they are coming along fine. the smallest bush keeps flowering and there are more buds coming out everyday; the tallest one shed off its leaves last week but is now leafy as ever. the third bush is just getting on quietly. i, on the other hand, just look out the window and admire the ground covers with tiny purple flowers.
Very interesting contrasting pictures. It's amazing how different they look and how your eye is drawn to different aspects. I could do with some warmer weather right now, humid or not!!
