i made banana flambé to have another go at the five plus two's 'fire' this past week. major fail!
first i belatedly realized i only have two ounces of brandy left. then i used the ten-second self-timer but i couldn't work out the lighting of the banana. so i called for help from partner (since it was his idea) to press the trigger when i tell him. oy, it was worse than when i was doing it with the self-timer. and this is all blurry because i am so afraid of fire! ugh! of course the brandy ran out and partner insisted i use rhum. he didn't want to believe that rhum doesn't burn so he ended up eating two servings of brandy and rhum soaked banana flambé.
when i took hospitality management, our food & beverage segment of the course required us to work in the school's fine dining restaurant. we worked in pairs and the manager would pair us randomly. my partner and i always managed to get those patrons who loved to order irish cream coffee or banana flambé. of course, each time that happened, i always had the misfortune to have an inept partner that i had to do the flambé myself. i was always afraid everything would blow up! that is why i have very high appreciation for excellent servers and give good tips when partner and i dine out.
