pinocchio boy blue by summerfield

pinocchio boy blue

over at five plus two, we are retelling the story of pinocchio with self portraits. we were to choose our pinocchio from a series of poses given to us. my turn in the story is the part where pinocchio was at the marionette show at the stromboli theatre. see the awesome entries here. and maybe you will join us with a selfie or two with your pinocchio, please?

but since this shot went through an enormous amount of ETSOOI, i decided i'll post it for the etsooi challenge that has 'blue' for a theme this go-round.

this is a composite of six photographs over 10 days of processing. the stage that takes up the whole frame is that of Overture Centre for the Arts in Madison, Wisconsin which i photographed when i visited there in december 2015. i was standing in the middle of the stage and cloned myself out, as well as the name of the theatre projected on the curtains.

the image of pinocchio is from a series of photographs that @kali66 took specifically for the theme. she shot them in different poses, but - get this - lying down as this is a genuine marionette, with strings attached and all.

the person peeking through the curtains is supposed to be one of the dancing dutch maids, the face is my self-portrait from one of recent themes, photoshopped over the photo of a dutch maid grabbed from google images, because i couldn't find a suitable (meaning cheap) dutch maid costume and hat. then the resulting image was photoshopped on to another image from google images which was a red curtain slightly opened with a frightened boy peeking through. so the boy was removed and replaced with my processed image.

all this time, the image/s went back and forth from ps elements to photoshop cc to ribbet. as the stage photo is red and black, it was easier to merge the peeking curtains with some air brushing and dodging in ribbet. photoshop really was only for layers.

then last night, as i looked at the final image, i thought i'd grab another photo from the internet, that of clapping hands silhouettes. i found the right photo and did the layers again in pse then back to ribbet.

after 25 images of the same thing in different stages of processing, i thought i'd turn the image to blue for the current etsooi challenge. but it was so plain, so that got converted to black and white then silver screen which made the lighting on pinocchio more realistic. then the blue hand tint function again. itiofd, the reflection of pinocchio's legs are actually my legs, repositioned in post processing to make it look like his reflection.

i probably did a lot more to this photograph but they were mostly minor that my old brain could no longer remember.

i'm tired after all that, aren't you?
Well dang... sounds exhausting... but terrific result!

I was exhausted after reading about it but it certainly turned out magnificently. I am incredibly impressed and you have done such a magnificent job that it looks seamless

Im totally exhausted after reading all that, no one could possible claim that you hadn't ETSIOOI on this, wait... what was this to start with again? Full of admiration, and I have to say, the clapping hands were an inspiration.

Nice is blue, though I think I'm partial to the red myself! :) And also super cool to read about your processing story - bravo! Super well done.
