under a canopy of magnolias by summerfield

under a canopy of magnolias

for the twenty-some years that i've lived in north america, i had always wanted to come up close to this tree but it's always that i didn't come across them at the right time and thus never had the chance. until this morning.

it was pissing rain all day, but i brought my canon with me. fortuitous it had been, for partner drove by this street and this tree was still full of its flowers, unlike the few ones that i had seen the last few weeks. so, i stood underneath and took as many pictures as i could - long shot, close up using zoom (couldn't do macro, i'm too short and the flowers were up high), far, near, with hydro wires, without, with the houses, you name it. and i just stood there a while longer, i don't know why, but i just did. it doesn't take much to make me happy!
Beautiful - they look so soft. Did they smell good?

@jannkc - hmmmm, that's the one thing i didn't notice - the smell.

that is lovely! I really like the very dark lattice of twigs and branches contrasting with the softness of the flowers.

@patticake - thanks, patti. i would have preferred that the sky was stark blue yesterday but i suppose we take what we can get. if the weather gets better one of these days i'll go back there, but i doubt if the tree would still be as lush as it was yesterday.
@steeler - thanks so much.

@cscecil - thank you, CS. i'm afraid though that by this weekend, it would've all fallen off. but i was lucky i saw this. first time ever that i've taken a picture of this flower tree.
