ambience

ambience is defined as "the character and atmosphere of a place".

my partner and i love to eat out. we actually hit it off because we both love food and the few times i had met him, our talks would always end up about places where this steak was great or this seafood was excellent. so when he invited me to have dinner with him i did not hesitate to accept. he took me to a fine dining restaurant which i knew about because, when i first came to toronto and before i met him, i would dress up and dine at nice restaurants, sometimes with a one of my officemates but mostly solo. i just love dining out and i enjoy a good meal whether i have company or not. (i think that's how i gained weight. duh!)

we like to go to a restaurant where the decors do not overwhelm; the smile of the hostess or server you first see gives you an instant invitation to stay, get comfortable and indulge. in other words, you enter and you just know you like it there. of course, the service has to be excellent and the food would have to be superb.

we have a few favourite restaurants and the servers know us. i think mostly because we tip reasonably well. when i first dated partner, he was quite surprised that i offered to split the tab with him. he was more surprised that i didn't mind that he was using a two-for-one coupon. rich people do that all the time! but he insisted that he would pay the total bill so i doubled up the server's tip. i must say, i'm a big tipper - why, i even tip gas station attendants! my friends laugh at me when i do that. but i rarely ever use self-pump!
You are one fun person to hang around with!!! I want to dine out with you! And I believe in tipping well, too! And you never even pump your gas -- girlfriend, you are living right!!

THIS is wonderful ... love a good restaurant. And friendly staff. We have so few here that we tend to stay home alot. I am so like you, summerfield. I'm a good tipper for good service. And I definitely hate to fill my own gas tank ... only we don't have full service stations here much anymore. So hubby does it. Your ambience here is perfect.

we believe in giving good tips, also, no matter what the service is although we do not eat out often and there is only one place that pumps gas around here - about 20 miles from us. nice shot, great atmosphere.

@cscecil - i've pumped gas a number of times and i don't like it. actually, i'm afraid to, and that is why i don't own a car or drive on a regular basis. i always have this vision of the pump exploding on me. thank you, CS.

@olivetreeann - it does look interesting, but the problem is i've never seen it open. someone told me they've been there and that the food is great. one day i see it's open, i'll go in and just treat myself. thank you, ann.

@karenann - thank you, karenann. everything now is DIY or automated. there are more people in the world now, i think it makes sense that services should be 'personalized' so that people would have jobs.

@roth - no, it's in an old building down at wellington just across from the gooderham building (flatiron).

@myhrhelper - exactly! thank you, kathy.

@steeler - thank you, howard. i can handle taxes. just that i forgot about it because i'm more interested in 365! hahaha!

@alia_801 - thank you, alia. taxes are done! :-)

@meoprisan - thank you, mihaela.

@catsmeowb - whenever i drive, i like to patronize the old gas stations in the far flung places because, exactly, they have someone to pump the gas for you. and i see the surprise in the attendant's eyes when i hand over a tip. thank you, camille.

I wish I could afford to tip well. Photographers are usually broke! LOL. But we love life. Nice shot and words.

Catching up. Sorry took so long. Gotta say love this capture and everything about. I'm not too into food, not to say I don't like it, but it's more of a thing that I need to do, as opposed to wanting to do. Don't know if that makes sense. Lol. But I've probably spent more time at a diner, bar, pub or restaurant then at a dinner table at home. I've always loved the feel of a place, the interaction of people. The more diversified, the better. Always had a Hemmingway-esque resonance to it. Have you seen the new Woody Allen movie, "Midnight in Paris"? Has the same sorta feel to it.
