street lamps at dusk by summerfield

street lamps at dusk

gumball is in toronto for the night on their way to las vegas. waited two and a half hours to get shots of the first four cars and that was it for me. i got a good vantage point, where the cars must stop for the media to photograph them. i was among the professional photographers who came with their muscled cameras. chatted with two journalists, one with a local latin publication. i helped them spot 'the girls' in the crowd. it was nice watching them in action as they zoomed in on people. we were across the trendy restaurant frequented by celebrities.

i took a lot of random shots of people and the big bikes parked near the venue, and a handsome cop. yee-haw! with tattoos all over his arm. eww!

when i was taking my leave, they begged me to stay. david hasselhoff was supposed to be one of the drivers, the photogs told me to which i simply gave a shrug. (they couldn't believe i had never watched not even one episode of baywatch.) was that enough enticement to make me stay? nah-ah! took a pic of the crescent moon and these street lamps and i'm happy. "george clooney and brad pitt are coming, too," they added - they just made that up. i pretended i was going to barf. am not into celebrities, besides i'm hungry i needed to eat my supper. the ultimate enticement: we'll treat you to dinner after the event. what's my reply? a 'no, thank you' of course!

picture me in the middle of a group of big men with their big cameras and big lenses, i with my little canon powershot. at a premium vantage point. i guess i'm not into cars. frankly, the bikes parked across the road were more interesting, really.

yesterday's entry for the may challenge: http://365project.org/summerfield/365-again/2012-05-24

and yesterday's abstract photo is actually a portion of a ginko leaf.
very interesting street lights, nice comp, very funny story to go with it. maybe they would have bought you a camera too ...

Love this lowkey photo .... so beautiful too!! I wish that I'd been with you at the "awesome" event. More to watch the pros than to see the celebrities! You're too much, summerfield .... what a great comment (story!) Made me smile.

This is an interesting and great capture. Your story was interesting too!

You are too funny- I would have done it for the chance to say I'd done it! haha Yeah, my little p & s with professional photographers!! As for Baywatch, yes I did watch for a little while way back when and even found Mr. Hasselhoff's star on the Hollywood walk of fame. But I'd rather have met Gene Kelly! Nice gumball shot (I don't know who they are!).

@karenann - actually, i found it more fascinating to watch them get into different positions as the cars were coming. funny, too, whenever a 'vavavooom' would pass by, some in a state of almost undress, and you see the photogs very discreetly aim their cameras and shoot, while talking to me. i think they wanted me to stay as a diversion cum alibi when there's a lull with the cars' arrival. thank you, karenann.

@pamfromcalgary - thank you, pam. processed this in ipiccy, darkened it to blot out the windows of the condo in the background.

@olivetreeann - i got six shots of four cars. hard to find a good point of view with cars. paul newman is the celeb i would go gaga over, but sadly he's no longer. thank you, ann.

those guys were begging for your company and you just flipped your hair and walked off -- leaving them intrigued and mesmerized!!!!!! Laughing my head off! LOVE the lights! What a fun evening for you! (Bet the offer for food almost got you to stay!!!!!) hahaha!

@sarasdadandmom - yes, i took this while i was waiting. hehehe! i actually went back in the morning to shoot the cars that were parked, but most of the 130 some cars have left and there were just a token few, the last one was being driven by some 'prince' or heir to the throne of one of the emirate countries in the middle east. will have to find a way to post some of those pics. thank you, terry.

@noo - thank you, denise. much appreciated.

@alia_801 - i'm so glad you noticed the irony of it all. i really have no idea how to photograph a car, which angle is best to take, etc., except for zooming in on the logo or the bonnet of the car. thank you, alia.

This is a moody photo...I love it...suggests loneliness...Very interesting. I am not into celebs either. When you said David Hasselhof and then said " I have never seen an episode of" I thought you were going to say KNIGHT RIDER as he was in that dopey show (never saw it) where he had a car named Kit that he talked with and they solved crimes. I never saw a Baywatch either...obviously....had forgotten he was on that. The only celebs I'd ever care to meet would be AUTHORS and the Coen Brothers who direct all my favorite weird comedy movies like Raising Arizona, Big Lebowski, and Intolerable Cruelty. Those guys are awesome. Your story was interesting.....who was that who said "I came with a knife to a gun fight" the other day about how he went to this hill to take pics of the supermoon..he had a normal DSLR..and all these guys up there had those HUGE zoom lens, tripods, etc... haha..Maybe Howard steele? Not sure. Anyway, loved your photo and story.
