this is a travesty! such a delicious dessert and it's in black and white! no fair!!!!
i forgot about this. i bought it at the market the other day then brought it home, put it in the deli drawer of the fridge and completely forgot about it until tonight.
baklawa (pronounced baklava) is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of filo pastry filled with chopped nuts (almonds and pistache) and sweetened with honey. it is characteristic of the cuisines of the former ottoman empire and those of central and southwest asia. in the middle east, they make it with cardamom and other exotic spices. i like the greek version, just plain sweetness.
this is not a dessert that you can crave often unless you really have a fanstatic sweet tooth. but when i want it, i gotta have it. and no, i won't be able to finish this, i'd probably have a bite or two and the cling wrap takes care of it for me until next time. it's just too sweet and my teeth (the few that's left hahahaha!) and gums throb.
and did you notice it's a triangle?
thank you, ladies and gentlemen. your views and kind comments are well treasured.
It even looks fabulous and tempting in b&w. Here you go "teasing" me again ... Now I'm ready for some tea and a "treat!" Well, I'll just have to check out the fridge. Wonderful triangle thumbnail!!
@karenann - no, it breaks my heart to look at it in black and white. :-( food should always be in colour, but i don't have a triangle for today so black and white baklawa it is. thank you, my friend.
Oooh, it's a very sweet dessert, I've tasted it before! (It was nutty and bite-sized, thank goodness.) It reminds me of the syrup-drenched desserts and super sweet apple tea in Turkey. Very lovely triangle! 8)
@myautofocuslife - thank you, livia. it is a dessert with different twists depending on where you are around the mediterranean. i have a sweet tooth, but i can't stand a lot of this one.
@myhrhelper - haha! thank you, kathy. this is made with very thin filo crust, laden with butter and honey.
oh, one of my favorites and i am in agreement with so many here, don't care if it is b&w, stale, old, or covered in green eggs and ham, i will eat it sam i am!
@olivetreeann - sweet and cold. my dentist would love me more. hahaha! thank you, ann.

@bkbinthecity - thank you, brian. a city should have enough greek restaurants, you can never go wrong with any of their food.
