Common Toad by susiemc

Common Toad

We went to see some Ospreys today. It was quite exciting because there were 3 chicks in the nest and we watched an adult fly to the nest with a rather large fish. There was a hide and someone from 'Natural Resources Wales' with a telescope so we were able to see them clearly. Unfortunately they were too far away for me to get any decent photos which was a bit disappointing. Anyhow, here's a toad. Chris found it when he was gardening this afternoon. You can tell a toad from a frog because a toad is very knobbly and warty and the skin feels very dry. The warts secrete toxin when the toad is harassed. This is the first toad I've captured for when I eventually do my 'Birds and other Wildlife at Kilsby' book.
A beautiful capture Sue -- he is a handsome character warts and all !

Keep a copy of the book for me! Amazing toad. We had a greenish one in the garden once. ( in the uk) and we've had a frog here that lived next to a drip from the watering system.

Well Done Sue, how lovely to have seen the osprey, even if not to photograph them. The book sounds a great project to keep your spare moments filled. Do put a section in the back on birds etc you have seen on your holiday travels (grouse, curlew etc!)

Nice rusty colours...should have no problem finding camouflage in the fall.

This one is not likely a prince. :)

Good shot, we have many toads in our garden, ours are very dark brown & warty & ugly & not prince material.

Great close up. I like the focus on his eye.
