Don't you just love that long curved bill. I was pleased to see this in Dorset last year because whimbrel's aren't as common as other similar wading birds.
If anyone thinks this is a curlew and not a whimbrel please correct me. They're very similar but a curlew is bigger (I didn't see one of each standing side by side :)).
I think you are right, it has a white eye stripe which curlews don't have, Their beaks are shorter as well but how can you tell, if only they would stand side by side.
