If viewed small (even thumbnail), this looks, to me, like a snow capped mountain you might find in Oregon (Mt. Hood) or Washington (Mt. Ranier). But of course, viewed normally, it's a huge billowy cloud at the end of the only paved road (Kings Highway) on the island. Notice the traffic. Yes, on Beaver Island, there is very little traffic. If you see another car, custom here is you wave at the drive. Not a full hand wave, a litte save while the heel of you hand remains on the wheel. You can always tell a tourist -- they either wave madly or ignore the custom. The most unusual things we see on the road: ducks (mama and ducklings) crossing; teen skate boarding; cyclist doing their morning exercise (it's the only road that isn't too dusty for all out exercising); two cars stopped in the middle of the road, facing opposite directions, so the drivers can catch up with each other's news or make plans; a few cars lined up along one of the ditches when news that the yellow lady slippers are out; golf carts; electric cars. Occasional deer or other animals. What is most unusual to see: traffic.
Lovely shot and commentary Taffy, what an idyllic way of life that sounds. I'm jealous. If you get a chance, could you pop back to my butterfly shot and hit the fav button harder please.
@danielwsc I learned about negative space from you and Annette. Yep, it's tough keeping up here...you'll see the traffic jam I experienced on the way home from photographing lady slippers this afternoon (posting in my extras album for change of pace).
