Hooray! The mating carp photos have been recovered, or edited into recovery, or processed into something recognizable. For those who hadn't read my posting on Gone Fishing, I was on the beach for over a half hour, before leaving for a conference in Buffalo (when I should have been packing and getting ready to go) to take photos of this amazing annual ritual we've seen for the past several years. Schools of carp make a cacophony of sound splashing, leaping, diving during their mating ritual. This year, the lake is low enough that they were fairly far out, past some muddy wetlands. I tramped through that, used my telephoto, and was so excited to see what I had . . . only to realize I'd overexposed every single shot by not changing my backlit compensation setting from the night before. AGH! But, with Aperture, then some Nik suite software, and serious cropping, I recovered these four shots. In the top one, if you look closely, you can see the fish's eye. The dark shadows are other fish. The splash in the bottom one is typical of what you can see from a distance, when trying to localize where on the lake the sound is coming from.
Thank you all for your comments on my Niagara Falls rainbow shot -- it ended up on PP within a few hours and I was thrilled! It was because of your comments and faves and I so appreciate them.
Great shots and very interesting - I like the presentation too - you may see something similar (because I think I will copy this - lol ) for my whale shots - they were quite far out today :)
