In the middle of class, my phone buzzed with an emergency campus wide announcement. Severe storm, flood warning. Rather like stating the obvious as we could barely hear ourselves above thunder and rain. Class ended at 8:00 p.m. while the storm continued to roar. It may be the only time in my career when the entire class hung around to talk and ask questions! I grabbed this shot during our break (and came back to class a little bedraggled). These are the super-tall safety lights that tower over the streetlights, trees, etc.
My tag challenge was rain+light and tonight was my first chance to combine them this week.
Love that, great atmosphere and a great response to the challenge. Love how the rain is visible in the light. Flood warning, not nice, hope everything is fine!
@danielwsc It was the worst I remember in awhile. I couldn't believe how many of us were pretty much stuck in the college for about 45 minutes. The theater department is in our lower level and we ended up with students playing music in the stairwell -- a spontaneous concert -- which made the time go by more quickly.
I feel soaked and can hear the swooshing of the rain when viewing. I look forward to be able to capture rain...I tried the other day and failed miserably. I realize now that light is key.
@rellimdj Thanks for the kind comment Joe. And you are so right about the light. The difference between this shot where you see all the drops and the one of the plaza where it just looks like a wet golden area (taken a few minutes apart) was striking to me when I viewed the images. The rain had slowed, but it hadn't stopped the way it looks in the darker shot.
