Idea = A
Execution = B- to C+
My new crystal ball arrived from China via eBay today, just as I was heading out to meet up with Mara @mara19500 and her friend (visiting Chicago from Italy) for a photo walk along Chicago's lake shore. Great fun to play with the new toy with a fellow 365er! For my forced perspective get pushed challenge this week from David @dtigani I thought I'd try to make it look like the bubble was balanced or landing on the skyscraper at the point. couldn't quite figure out how to get it lined up.
I haven't figured out all the things I can do with mine either. Guess it's time to look for some on-line tutorials. An eighth to a quarter inch lower and you would have had it.
@morrisphotos I am not at home right now to dig out my receipt- but if I remember correctly mine was in the $20 range and the stand was included. I ordered mine on Amazon and I just typed in "glass ball" and went with the least expensive one.
@morrisphotos I did an eBay auction and like Ann, it comes with a little stand. It cost $16.00 including shipping but from China, took about 2 weeks to get here, maybe a little longer as I've lost track of when I ordered it.
Cool shot. Would have been better without the hand. You could have tried dropping the ball and taking the picture when it was in the right place. Yes, I'm joking (but it is the sort of thing I would try).
I agree with Daniel you could have dropped it (and as he said yes i'am joking and also it isn't my crystal ball.... *runs away from @taffy PDQ ) It is yet another shot to be proud of well done @taffy ;)
Well done Taffy almost there! I have a glass ball and love using it. You will have great fun! Glad it's not just me finding the forced perspective difficult. I keep seeing shots and it looks so easy -I have another go and it's rubbish! I have always used the stand with my ball or stood it on something ax my hand always shakes!
@taffy I told you it was one of the most challenging things I have done since starting this project. I like what you've done though. Trying to do mine tonight.
@salemslot@danielwsc Heehee to both of you re dropping the crystal ball that I waited three weeks to get, while standing over Lake Michigan! BUT, I couldn't stop thinking about it and here's how it could work. Get a large butterfly net with strong netting and reinforce with duct tape. Make sure it is large enough in circumference to catch a wobbly drop. Use remote shutter release and set up continuous release. Then, you could do the drop and reduce the chance of saying goodbye forever as the ball drops into the lake!! So, actually, perfectly reasonable advice!
@kimshots Just watch eBay and order even if from China -- I only paid $16.00 for it and had it within a few weeks! Truly, it is SO much fun, but much harder to use than I'd figured. But I do recommend it for the fun -- and you have such great scenery to work with.
