Some of the Elevated (our metro/subway) lines in the system in the "loop" and and "west loop" run above the ground, on tracks supported by these structures. When you drive or walk under the El when a train is passing overhead, the noise is deafening. I love these structures as they are so much a part of our city, but I suspect a visitor would see them as eyesores! Taken earlier this month, processed for a b&w photo for today as none of today's shots work in b&w.

@northy Not on this one -- it was yesterday brightly colored one of the moon and the wedding ring building with the green colors ("Forced Perspective" was the name of the photo) -- from Penny. I suspect she'd just been on your photos and then went to mine. Anyway, I was flattered!

Fabulous b&w image Taffy! Wonderful atmosphere! You are do lucky living in a big city like Chicago which has such diverse subjects to photograph! You are spoilt for choice and then you have Beaver Island! A photographer's dream!
@pamknowler Thanks so much Pam! I know how lucky I am -- between city and island it's hard to run out of ideas (I hope!). And now that we are traveling again, it opens new possibilities. But what's the best is that I can go to the same places as I keep learning new skills which makes each place filled with new possibilities. Didn't you find HDR opening a new world?
Love the stark contrast in B&W. Looks almost like a bleached out photo from a faded newspaper. Brings to mind The French Connection in its cinematic quality.
Love this. Fav. Fantastic processing. I love train lines in cities. As a child who grew up in a small town I was fascinated by the houses right by the train tracks when we travelled into London. When I bought a flat in London many years later i was very tempted to buy one with a view of the tracks. Was v noisy though and S wisely put his foot down!
@taffy I love HDR and the possibilities it now gives me. It just a bit frustrating trying to find interesting buildings apart from churches. I am a Londoner and worked in London for 32 years. How I wish I had the knowledge I have now. I look back at my early photos from that time and now can see how I could have done a better job. I just need to find some inspiration from the countryside and villages around here! I think I am in a bit of a dip inspiration wise after completing year one of 365!
I would never see this as an eyesore. I see it as a quintessential American city scene, that I associate with some of the less affluent suburbs, but most of all a rich seam of photographic opportunities. A huge Fav.
There aren't many photos that work this well with both high contrast and a lot of detail. I think the subject needs to be gritty to work, and this qualifies. Fav.

Very nicely done!
