At the end of an already exceptional astrological day, Ken and I met up with Ron @strayshooter at the Huntington Beach pier, hoping to catch a beautiful moon rise. No denying that it was magnificent, huge and magical, but overwhelmed (to me) by this exceedingly busy and over-crowded region! Ron made a lovely succession of images showing the moon rising https://365project.org/stray_shooter/photo-a-day-16/2018-01-31 but I want to share comparative photo-memories of this summer when I could dash to three locations and capture the moon rising from behind different foregrounds: from ocean, to trees lining a golf course, and then a peninsula with pine trees!
KEN NOTED that within about a ten-mile radius of this location, the population of the area is about equal to ALL of the Canadian Province of Nova Scotia. It does prevent me from capturing the tranquility of the moon rise (without some heavy cropping!) The white dots aren't stars, but planes coming in for a landing in one of two nearby airports!
@stray_shooter Huge chuckle went up from Ken and me as we deciphered GWN (Great White North)! Personally I liked that we had two different focal lengths so we might see different perspectives (and didn't we though!) Let us know if you're in the 'hood again or know of a place we ought to meet. I'll soon send you some that won't make 365 but that you might like to have.
Oh this is fabulous Louise and so interesting to see that colourful foreground! I am so pleased you have shared your Nova Scotia images which are so different from SC! Love Kenâs info re the population! This is such a different image from others that I have seen and I love it! Fav!
Such a beautiful image Louise. I saw Ron's pic yesterday and was waiting to see how yours turned out. It's wonderful to see your images from your winter home south of the border. Keep having fun and I'll keep walking in the snow. :)
I think you did a great job and all the buildings give it perspective and show how lovely and big it looked :-) I forgot all about it until went out at night and it was so so bright outside it was fab.
Love those shots from the GWN to underscore the contrast to So Cal. And thanks for the link!
