Oil and Water  by onewing

Oil and Water

Winter has finally arrived and it is a very wet and miserable day here today. So I thought I would stay indoors and play about with oil and water photography. This is my first attempt. Still need some work to do on learning how to do this, but at least I have got a starting point and I can see already how I can make improvements with settings and light etc.
Neat effect Babs!

Its very abstract - reminds me of the 1960s - it looks really good.

great shot and effect Babs! Looks sort of like very round boulders falling down in an avalanche. Love the diagonal division of colour! well done!

I think it's great Babs, love the orange colours. I think I'm going to start making a list of ideas for things to try in the winter from all of you Southern Hemisphere people because I know I'm oing to struggle for ideas when winter ones! Hope you don't mind!!

@marie65 Thanks Marie.

@winnedreamer Thanks Nic. We'll have to try it at your house soon. It really buggers the back though!!

@joluise Thanks Jo. Needs some improvement though.

@angelat See what you mean about the boulders. I thought planets colliding, but boulders works too.

@bugsy @ginnykoppenhol @christinehosey Thanks. Never done this before so this was a first for me. It really plays havoc with the back though, leaning over the glass, even with a tripod.

@paulaw Good idea about making a winter list. Look forward to seeing your efforts, may have to wait a while though. We all get ideas from each other which is what I love about this site. Winter has suddenly hit here and its freezing currently 13 degrees!!! We had a power cut last night too.

This works well Babs, I like the effect. As usual I wouldn't know where to start. I really like the colours.

I am just off today, Monday, to an inter club photo competition but am feeling lousy so not sure how long I will stay as they tend to go on for hours.

@elaine55 Thanks Elaine, I always like trying out new ideas. This one I got the idea from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQ5SH_vK7U8 This one is better than mine, but I can see where I can improve mine now. This was the starting point. Give it a try. Don't use coke cans though!!!

Good luck with the competition. Hope you're feeling better soon. Must be going out in all that rain!!!

@onewing thanks for the link Babs I will watch it later. We won last night for the first time in 5 years and only the 3rd time in 17 years. They added the scores at the end of the evening. First mono and they were winning by 3 points, next colour and we beat the, by 2 so that meant they were 1 ahead and then the digital and we beat them by 7 so that mean we won by 6 points. We were all so thrilled!

If this is a first attempt, I'm really looking forward to your hundredth! This is a super capture, I love the contrast of light and shade and tones of the same colour reversed in the bubble. I've never done this and have no idea where to start! Fav

@rhos Thanks Ann. I gave the link to Elaine of where I got some ideas from for this shot. I did something similar to this, but didn't use the coke tins as legs for the glass!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQ5SH_vK7U8. Thanks for the fav too. Don't think I deserve it, but it is appreciated.
