As I have been posting photos taken in Newcastle for the last few days, I thought I would continue with another photo from Newcastle for my Friday people theme.
Some people may think that the term 'hillbilly' can be quite derogatory, but not in this case. As you read below you will see why.
I saw this chap in Newcastle and asked him if I could take his photo. He said "Why would you want to take a photo of an old hillbilly" and I said "Because I love the beard and you look to be quite an interesting character". He said "I can live with that" and posed quite happily.
We had a lovely chat and then we both went on our way.
What a character, and a magnificent white beard. Always a bit nerve wracking asking someone if you can take their photograph, but most are very friendly really and are happy to oblige. Great shot.
@iwcharters@quietpurplehaze@bizziebeeme@salza@beryl@thistle Thanks. He was a bit of a character and lovely to chat to.
It is easy to get chatting to characters like this give it a go. I guess I am the right age to not sound too threatening and I do have the gift of the gab, ha ha.
@gilbertwood He does Denise. I guess Santa has to go somewhere for his holidays. This year he chose Newcastle. I saw Santa once before too at an airshow at RAAF Williamtown. Maybe he was thinking of upgrading from reindeer. ha ha.
@pusspup@hermann Ha ha, he does look like a bush poet, but here is the real one http://365project.org/onewing/365/2014-07-29 maybe they are related.
It was freezing on Sunday when I took this photo and when I asked him if he was cold he said "No, I am as tough as old boots".
@annied Ha ha, Annie you sound like David. Whenever I get chatting to characters like this, David always says, "We aren't going to take him home are we"
What a wonderful way to meet someone and to take their picture. Such a great portrait of this man. Great beard and it is like I can hear your conversation....lol.
@bella_ss Go on, give it a go Sheralee, it's easy. All you have to say is "You look fantastic can I take your photo" and people aren't going to say "No" with a line like that are they, ha ha.
he has a gorgeous face
