On Monday I drove to my favourite beach at Anna Bay, it was the furthest I have been for over 2 months. (only 8 km) I have really missed walking on Birubi Beach and the dunes.
We do have nice beaches at the bottom of our road but our side of the bay is sheltered and we don't get the rolling waves that are on the ocean side of Port Stephens.
Over the next few days I will be posting photos from Birubi Beach hope you enjoy them.
The last few days have been really warm for autumn but today it has rained and turned quite chilly. Only a couple of weeks till winter in Australia.
I would say you don't get a cold wind on to this beach from the east as we often do! One can just imagine scrambling over this ridge with bare feet.... us, not the ridge!
Lovely patterns and capture best get out whilst you can Babs with it getting chilly, don't make me laugh quite chilly in Nelson Bay its like the lovely summers day in West Yorkshire, lol btw our planned trip to Oz next year may have to be defered to 2021 the way things are going:)
Great shot! And happy you can get to it!
The beaches here are still closed and I'm actually very happy we do not live by the beach. Friends have told me there are checkpoints and they are not allowed to leave their street. Here, within 3km of the beach I can still walk around the neighborhood!
@maggiemae It does get quite chilly on a cold winters day because this beach faces south and the next stop is Antarctica. Generally though it isn't too cold.
It is along this stretch of the coast where we watch the whales travelling north up the coast of Australia to give birth in warmer waters. Apparently the whales are on the move at the moment, but we haven't seen any yet.
@casablanca Ha ha, I did consider taking my lens ball with me but changed my mind. Until yesterday it hasn't rained for ages so the grass on the dunes would be really dry. Didn't want to get arrested for setting fire to the grass on my first visit in 2 months.
@pcoulson Believe me Peter yesterday was bloody cold. It bucketed down with rain all day and we only had a top temperature of 16 degrees c. I was wrapped up like Nanook of the North. Sunshine today though and it will get warmer again early next week, at least for now.
Sorry you have had to abandon your holiday, what a bummer this coronavirus is.
@kjarn Definitely, winter was in the air yesterday.
@carole_sandford Yes it did feel a bit more normal again. I felt like the naughty child visiting somewhere that has been out of bounds for so long. Strange how quickly we got used to being so isolated and having a bit more freedom feels so odd.
Oh I bet you were glad to get back out there - such a lovely beach. Lovely to see those dunes and the blue evening (?) sky in such a measured composition.

We could still access it by parking our cars further along the coast and walking over the cliffs to Birubi but not many people would have done that during lockdown.
It will be a while before the tourists are able to visit again though or ride on camels etc.
