Coronation Day June 2nd 1953 by quietpurplehaze

Coronation Day June 2nd 1953

In my collage:

two shots taken up the field - buttercups - & a view over our village

two shots taken in 1953 - of our street party in Ipswich - & my sister and me in fancy dress - looks as if she, aka little Red Riding Hood, is keen to give her bunch of crepe paper flowers to the photographer (our dad, no doubt.)

This is a beautiful collage Hazel. Memories of the past - and the wonderful fields with buttercups of the present.

Lovely collage Hazel. You are so creative to think of things like this to post! Happy memories no doubt of 1953. I was only a baby so don't actually remember the coronation although I have a mug still which was given to me to mark the occasion!

@creativeamateur Paula, thank you. I have to say that my memories are the photos (or vice versa) - I would have thought I was old enough there to remember the occasion - but I don't. My dad took lots of photos and so (you know his character a bit from reading his diaries) I am lucky to have quite a few of our childhood. Some even have details written on the back.

@tandem02 Kathrin, thank you and thanks for taking the trouble to have a look.

@rosiekind Rosie, thank you. I was there but don't remember it (!) just the photos. I had a mug too but no longer, also had a Coronation flask which I put in the charity bag not so long ago.

This wonderful collage - so clever with past and present - brings back very similar memories for me too! Our party was in the local school hall and looking at the photographs seemed very formal as we were all looking very well behaved and a bit over-awed! I got a book Elizabeth II which I still have!

@tishpics Thanks for comments - you probably were well behaved and a bit over-awed! Well done for keeping the book.
