the reason why I'm not keen.....

... on bird shots is that, they either fly away or... turn their back on me.

maybe he just wanted to show you all his cool markings and colors ;)

Oh how funny... I like it.

He really is very beautiful though - I love Chaffinches!

@exidia

Oh good, and thank you - I thought he was a chaffinch but just needed to be sure!!!!!!!!

I was going to ask! Anyway, Hazel, it's a beautiful shot, and I'm impressed that you could even get that close before he flew away.

That is a pretty bird. I agree with you, birds are hard to photograph. I go to airshows and find planes a lot easier to photograph. Their paths are predictable, but birds are totally unpredictable.

Great shot beautifully captured (exhausted after hosp & procedure hence few words of comment )

@beryl

It's good of you to even bother, Beryl. I'm sorry you have been going through it, especially in this heat, and hope everything will be really sorted soon. Take care.

@barbcapecod

He was in the garden at a National Trust property so I expect used to visitors - maybe hot too!

Such a pretty back though Hazel....I wouldn't have known he was a chaffinch, i thought they were smaller but hard to get the scale here!
July 18th, 2013
At least you manage together the back of them, I don't have much luck at all!
July 18th, 2013
This is probably his best side! Lovely shot
July 18th, 2013
I have the same problem, but not your luck/patience! This is so well-framed, and the bird is lovely, even from the back! :) The photo gives a sense of anticipation -- who/what is he waiting for? :)

He just wanted to show his colourful side to you, I'm horrible at bird shots as well. Great composition
July 18th, 2013
Sweet capture. I love his colors.
July 19th, 2013
so true Hazel, I think I have more shots of the back of the bird than the front, but I like how this is captured, he looks like he is looking down the fence
July 19th, 2013
Yes birds are not easy to photograph.
July 19th, 2013
Aww, at least he was a colourful chap!
It'll happen, just keep persevering :)
July 19th, 2013
Was it something you said? Good capture
July 19th, 2013
You doing better as me. they always fly away. And the back is often as beautiful as the front.
