Event 1 We’re hosting the kids’ families for the eclipse, so we’re doing some serious early spring cleaning to prepare for having seven houseguests for several days.
Event 2 We’re going to visit my brother and his wife soon. My brother is the family genealogist and central repository of digitized family photos.
In the process of organizing for Event 1, I found one carousel tray of my dad’s slides, marked
“50’s // ARMY // WEDDING // SHOWER // TOM [me] // FAMILY MISC”.
One slide was a 1953 photo of my mom at age 16 dressed for a dance. I also knew there were more and easily found three more trays (emphasis on easily, which is not to be taken for granted).
So I set up the slide projector that Clare recently excavated from a closet and got it running to check it out and make sure everything was still working. I had to deal with trays that didn’t quite load right and slides that jammed, but I cleared those hurdles … and then the bulb blew. So I have ordered another ($10.71), to be delivered to Clare’s mom’s this week, before we go from northwest Ohio to south-central Michigan to visit my brother and his wife.
Clare also excavated the projection screen, so we will be packing a projector, a screen, and a box with four trays of slides to share with my brother (and maybe his sons). The plan will be to identify the images worth saving and — depending on how many there are — get them scanned.
