And what a travel day it was. We took the route through Pennsylvania on I-80 and there were so many traffic slow-downs. There must have been 6–10 significant tie-ups. We traveled 639 miles today and it took over 11½ hours. That’s an average speed of only 54.7 mph. With short distances to get on-and-off the interstate, I usually average about 60 mph. (Rest- and gas-stops are folded in to that average.) Our nav app would show yellow, orange, or red and tell us 8 minutes in traffic, 13 minutes in traffic… But we made it to our hotel-for-the-night and here we are at our now-favorite brewpub in Medina, Ohio (Akronym Public House), enjoying a flight of beers on the patio.
Only a ~5½ mph difference in average speed, you note? Now multiply by 10½–11½ hours and that’s tacking on a 60-mile shortfall at the end of the day. I was ready for beer and a decent meal!
Leaving home two weeks ago, we made 678 miles in ~10½ hours on the first day. You can do the arithmetic…
