The grains of granite

Granite has 3 crystals - pink Feldspar, white Quartz and black Mica. They are usually quite large because the rock has cooled slowly under the ground. The cracks in the granite occur from water freezing in tiny crevasses in the rock.

@chikadnz Thanks so much - we have lots of granite where we live - the big boulders crack in amazing ways! Thanks for your comment re the composition - it was a bit tricky to get an interesting macro from big boulders. Cheers Rob
