tonight, i was looking for something in my book shelves when i noticed these two coasters and sparked the idea for this post. i bought these coasters in 1991 when i spent a month's holiday in bournemouth, england. my hosts, my former boss who was british and his japanese wife, brought me around the southern part of england.
they knew i loved books and that one of my favourite authors was thomas hardy, so one afternoon, they took me to the thomas hardy cottage in dorchester. afterwards, we went to have afternoon tea in lyndhurst. i was browsing at a shop and saw these coasters, i turned my head and i was amazed that most of the structures depicted in the coasters were still in existence and so well-maintained.
aside from photographs, these are the few souvenirs i have from that afternoon's trip. one day, i shall go back to england and explore some more of its beautiful villages.
