on my way to the boardwalk at lunch today, saw this bridal entourage whilst waiting for the lights to change. the bride ran across the three-lane carriage-way with less than ten seconds before the lights turned yellow. her pregnant maid-of-honour was in tow and didn't look amused, while bride was laughing her heart out; the rest of the entourage had to wait for the next light. the rest of us on both sides of the road were of course amused at the spectacle of the running bride, and the wobbling pregnant woman holding a bouquet in each hand. i only got two chances at this scene, the other one with the a car photobombing the shot.
in photography, according to freeman patterson's book 'photography and the art of seeing', photography has a "special connection with chance, a characteristic to which every photographer should be constantly sensitive; a photographer can take advantage of fortuitous events that would slip away from artists in other media." we get the chance, we seize it. and for one lucky chance, i did have several missed opportunities just at this instance alone, like the bride almost tripping as she got onto the sidewalk, or high-fiving her groom, the tall man right beside her.
thank you, folks! i shall catch up with you on the weekend.
The bride does look very amused! It looks like a casual sort of Wedding Day, I bet they had a fabulous day. I like the focus in this photo. Great candid shot.
Well I agree the bride is sure having some fun at the expense of the maid of honour. Sure would love to hear what she was laughing about. I have to leave this to my imagination. Let's not forget the husband just glaring so casually. Great composition, I especially love your processing a softening effect.
For the second you had to take this shot you nailed it!! It totally feels spontaneous and candid. The bride looks kooky and the bridesmaid annoyed, but the sandals just put icing on the cake of all the interaction going on between them. Excellent! And Patterson is applauding.
Great shot! You managed to get her bright and sharp in her beautiful gown, while everybody else is looking nice and blurry! Can't imagine how anybody could run in those sandals! This is photojournalism at its best!
