that's sautéed frog legs for you!

this is a companion photo for my madhatters' post this week. we are re-telling the classics with a different twist. this idea came to me at almost the last minute so before i forget what it was, i grabbed the camera, looked for the darn frog in my box of tricks and the large chef's knife. in the other photo i used a smaller knife.

The story of the Frog Prince, as we know it, is quite simple: "the princess kisses the frog, out of the goodness of her heart, and he turns into a prince." In the Grimm Brothers original version, the frog tricked the resentful princess into making a deal with him. Then he relentlessly followed her until she got to her castle and even ensconced himself onto her silken pillow. She throws him against the wall and voila! Damn frog turned into a prince! (And darn it, he's handsome, he's dashing, he's rich! For Pete's sakes, he's a prince? Isn't that the dream of every girl in the whole world? To meet a handsome rich prince? Ah, wait, she's already a princess. Never mind!) But the trickery and the mild violence aren't just that. There were other earlier versions of the story where she cut off his head instead. Well, that doesn't even come close to the romanticism of "the kiss", does it?

Well, the Princess must've been French and just wanted to make a good "cuisses de grenouille à la Provençale".

here's the mad hatters version: http://365project.org/madhatters/365/2015-04-15
...and in France there was a lot of 'cutting off of heads"! Poor wee frog - he's saying, 'ouch'! I think they are overrated on the menu! Like snails!

The frog has the perfect expression for some of those story lines!

I like this because I spent a long time looking at all elements of it. I didn't realize that was a chef's knife at first, and I'm really curious about the surface that frog prince there (and the knife) are sitting on. Looks like a block of ice?

@stray_shooter - no, not ice. just plain white board. it's probably the processing that gave it that look. it was so plain without it. thank you, ron.
