it certainly did look like a deserted place, with nary a human being about, why not even a pigeon or a squirrel in the wires! truth is, there were people and cars all over, i just got lucky they didn't fit in the frame. there were, indeed, people out of the left of the frame ready to cross the street. again, this was a drive-by shot when i was on the streetcar last sunday.
this used to be a seedy part of town when once vagabonds and all sorts of drug addicts could be found about the place. in fact, this is the east side of the street where night ladies of ill-repute plied their trades, and those, my policeman friend told me a long time ago, were the ones who can never go back to normal lives. when you cross to here from the west side of this block, it meant you're a goner. with the abundance of government housing buildings around and a tad south to the left homeless shelters and soup kitchens catering to not only the poor but what some call the dregs of society, it was definitely not a salubrious place. however, in the recent few years, the city, with efforts from the local community members, has done some work to restore it to its former glory when once it was an important part of the city.
