playing with macro

came home late from work as we had a cocktail party. it was like crazy at the office from the time i arrived at 9:45 this morning. i'm feeling rather old as it seems i couldn't cope with rushes and deadlines anymore, when i used to live for such things not so long ago. i used to be able to think on my feet, doing three, four or five things at the same time and still absorbing instructions. now i have to sit down and write down stuff then i forget where i wrote them.

so at this hour when i should be relaxing, having finished commenting on your posts, i am playing with the camera's macro function and i get flustered because i can't seem to make it work. tried to find something really small but my little pinky ring would do for now. yes, it's a pinky ring with a stone just a tad bigger than a pinhead. of sixty shots, this is the only decent one - not good, but just decent or passable.

i like to think i could learn this without special classes, or maybe i should just stick to writing.

many thanks for your views and comments. they're very much appreciated. i suppose i shall start again tomorrow trying to catch up on yours. bear with me, please.
Welcome to my world! This is a beautiful shot. I find as I get older that simple stuff gets much more complicated.

@beba8162 - thank you, roberta. tell me about it. i had a boss 25 years ago who had been CEO of large gas corporations and when he hired me, he was amazed what i could do and how fast and accurate, was so impressed he actually upgraded my salary after just seven weeks. if he was alive and saw me this morning, he'd have demoted me to the mailroom! although i did well considering, i still felt i wasn't up to par and i'm afraid it would just go worse from today. hah! five more years!

This makes me think, if just focusing on it is so difficult, imagine being the stonecutter who shaped it.

@pandorasecho - i'm sure the stonecutter was at least an expert; i'm hardly an expert in the photography craft. thank you, dixie.

I am faving your jump into the Dslr. Just keep playing, posting and let the experts here know what you wanted to achieve and they will help you.

@meoprisan - i do, too! and also, i didn't think the stone was that colour up close. i thought it was my eyes when i would look at it and seemed yellowish. thank you, mihaela.

@jannkc - you'd be proud of me - i've not used the 'autofocus' and the camera was preset to that. got some good training on the canon p&s, i suppose as i've been using it on manual mode or the program mode. one thing i know for sure, no autofocus for me. so my pics would be quite crappy for a little while. :-) i get a one-hour free tutorial at the store but meanwhile, i want to go back to the pond and shoot the swans once again! thank you, jann.

That's a very pretty ring and you have done a good job! I will admit that I am getting tired and forgetting things like the occasional word. It annoys the heck out of me.

It looks good to me!! I actually like the combo of your writing and pictures- especially when it involves a story about you!

@losthorizon - beau, thank you for your kind comments. i know i've not gone to your album in quite a while. my problem sometimes is i don't get to see your posting because i have a few people who mass upload and that's probably. i shall be by your album later on tonight so i can look at them more closely. i've done a cursory look and i'm impressed. but whatever, you've always impressed me anyway since the beginning. and thank you for reading the story i wrote. i'm quite grateful.

@summerfield No worries. I've been so backed up on everyone's photos, I'm amazed people still follow me. If you don't comment, no problem. Read a few of your stories so far. Great work. My favorite so far is "It's Just Another New Years Eve." Very Hemingway-esque.
