uptown skyline

so, i went back to the soccer fields tonight but there were so many people walking by as there's a festival going on until sunday on the main thoroughfare. the road behind where i was standing had plenty of parking spots so that's where people decided to park their cars.

according to my camera i took 145 photos from this spot tonight. i haven't looked at the others as i also took photos at the festival and that was another good hundred or so.

this is the view of uptown toronto. taken on manual mode, camera on my knees (sitting down on the wet grass on a plastic bag), my arms tight against my legs and trying so hard not to make any movement. thank goodness there were no mosquitos but there were moths flying by. five times people stopped me asking me to take their photos. do i look like i'm a photographer? apparently i do. and a couple actually asked if i can also get the background clear. i had to tell them that's what i was trying to learn before they interrupted me.

cropped at the bottom (too much black space). i have one shot of this same spot with just a scintilla of a clear lightning streak, but the rest of the photo is blurry.
How beautiful this is ...looks like you got it perfectly. (But why didn't you bring a tripod/monopod?) Probably because you're just like me ... I'm trying to do better ...lol. P.S. How exactly do you do a "high key shot?" I know what the end result is, but how is it done, summerfield. Oh ... and FAV for this night photo!

@karenann - thank you, KA. the challenge says not to use a tripod. you can rest the camera onto something else, just not a tripod. and now that i know i can make a shot without it, provided i set the camera correctly, and nobody bugs me, i can sit very very still for a few seconds. as to high key, i just overexpose my shots then i process the heck out of it. i think high key is my kryptonite. i can't seem to get it. thank you for the fav, that's a very generous gesture, my friend.

Thanks for the info, summerfield ... I didn't check to see that this (tripod thing) was a "challenge!" You did mighty fine work, my friend. As for the high key ... well I've never tried it. Maybe I will sometime. Right now I'm just working on "clarity" ... it's been a hit and miss lately. One step forward and two back.

"Do I look like a photographer?" Haha That has happened to me too...twice I can recall...one was when I was shooting those pics of the seagulls when a ton of them flocked in the Walmart parking lot...a young girl with mom in car asked if I would do her "Head shots" and some fashion shoot shots. Uhmmmm.....no. Then, when shooting one of my fire engines at Shannes BBQ shots, this woman kept talking through my few seconds to have the light right and catch the firemen at the truck.....I was so annoyed. She was trying to get me to donate my day to shoot glamour shots or portraits at her charity event. Uhmmm...no. I might have considered it but I don't do people shots (haha) and she was rude. I was clearly trying to shoot the fire engine in a hurry. She ruined it. Okay...on to your photo! You should write VIEW LARGE on this one. It was good small, and then when I got it opened up large, I was THERE on that hill with you, with my butt on the plastic and the moths in my face. I thought, really though, that a car was going to come zipping by...I thought I was seeing this scene live. Bravo!

This is wonderful - I still need to experiment with night shots! What is up with all the people wanting their pics taken? You should have said yes, $100. That will make them run away. Are you talking about the Taste of the Danforth - so much good food and I'm so far away. Darn it!

@danig - thank you, DG. how's it going?

@espyetta - but of course, i had to obliged. i think that is why we were given the skills. so we could use it in other positive ways, plus everyone asked nicely. today, partner surprised me by taking me out of town to an old cars show. a man with a big camera asked partner if i was a professional photographer, to which partner laughed and said no but that i am quite good at it. and the man asked if i could take a photo of his using his own camera. so partner asked if i can do that. so i had to obliged. heck, i'm starting to like the big muscled cameras. and the man just kept of posing at his own old car that was on show. then later on we came across him again, and told us that i should be a professional because my shots were excellent. i think i took several shots and i was like on my knees, on the ground, stretched here, streched there, while he just kept on posing. hahaha! partner said he should've charged the man. hahaha! funny. others were just like 'can you please take our photo?' and they were mostly asians. yeah, it kind of put a damper especially when you're trying to aim for a shot. thank you, MB.

@russianblue - yes, it's on this weekend. i got a lot of freebies last night. i took photos of the two-girl band but all my shots were shut! i need to learn to take photos of moving people, not just people posing. thank you, kass.

Oh, and I wanted to wright: I love the levels in this landscape, the way they are accentuated by the lightning. (hope you understand my English)

You did fantastic with this regardless of the interruptions. It's amazing how many shots we (at least I do) before we get the one we like too.
Beautiful lights
