My Get Pushed 83 challenge from Rachel @rachelwithey was to "take a portrait of someone but not a candid shot? Something you set up a little and they are aware that you are going to take it." I took advantage of my colleagues in a meeting today with the promise that they could have any of the shots that they liked. This is Nate, one of our newest hires who is a wonderful addition to our faculty. My goal was to capture his smile and twinkle in his eye, and create one with potential for b&w for bw-bookclub's focus this week on artistic choice. A different portrait of Nate (in color) is in my overflow album - http://365project.org/taffy/special-photos/2014-02-17.

@rachelwithey Hi Rachel -- here are two portraits for my challenge. This one and a color one (two different photos, same person). Thanks for the challenge -- it got me to get out my trusty 85mm and ask someone to be my 'subject' -- Nate was a great sport!
@redy4et I showed him all the shots and deleted all the ones we thought weren't 'him' (e.g., lousy photos). Then, we narrowed it down to these two, but he's so photogenic that there were about 4 others I liked that had more of a candid feel. But the challenge was not to do a candid so I went with the ones that had more of a posed feel. So...long answer...but essentially we chose together!
This is a nice portrait too Taffy. I think the colour shot has the slight edge for me as I found the white of the window a little bit distracting from his photogenic face. I agree about the twinkle in his eyes and his smile. I wish I had someone I could take portraits of.
