I have now left my fifties behind - I have to remember there are loads of people dreaming of being 60 again and as they say - it's better than the alternative. But I can't confess to feeling unalloyed joy for various reasons.
Slightly restless night in the bouncy hotel bed waking up to my presents from Dave - gin, books and jewellery from by favourite Irish jeweller. A huge breakfast - continental and eggs royale made us wonder how we were going to fit afternoon tea in.
Spent the rest of the morning and afternoon leading up to tea time chilling in the gardens laughing at the antics of all the peacocks and peahens - a couple constantly chasing each other and running up and down the hill, the ones that gathered by a table where a couple had been drinking and managed to break a glass and the general raucous calling that would suddenly erupt for no reason. All very entertaining - bet the staff hate them. Weather lovely and sunny if still a fresh breeze.
Afternoon tea with a glass of champagne was lovely - the usual sandwiches, scones and cakes - and what we couldn't eat, we took home. More chilling in the gardens after before we drove mum home and we returned to find more birthday cards and presents including a lovely Lush lampshade and Iittala cake dish from my sisters.
It’s your birthday ‘act your shoe size’.
Have fun 🎂
Thanks so much everyone, looks I'm in very good company 🙂
