A slightly less anxious day. Thanks again for all your good wishes. Working at home till 3.30 then heading out to travel to meet Dave at his work. Unfortunately I got to the station to find the line completely out because of signal failure.
Arranged for an Uber but the traffic was appalling so ended up being very late to meet him. Driver was a woman unusually and nice and chatty but a little less clued up about how her satnav worked. And the traffic on the M25 looked horrendous also but amazingly once we got on the road, it seemed to improve.
Met Anna at the pub to swap late birthday presents and tuck into very nice fish pie. The remains of a wake at the next table were getting louder and more boisterous.
Our Airbnb turned out to be lovely with welcome treats in the fridge. I left Dave to relax for the evening and walked the 13 mins to the bal, a beautiful lane in the evening light and the birds singing and a cute olde worlde pub half way down.
Bal was excellent with Skolvan's infectious jazzy Breton dances. Tried to keep it low impact and sit out and listen to spare the knees a bit. Anna dropped me off at my Airbnb after.
3 good things
1. I persuaded mum not to go trekking across north London to get her COVID vaccination just in case she had a bad reaction while we're out of town - I'll go with her next week.
2. We were only 15 mins late to the pub after the travel shenanigans.
3. Lots of old faces at the bal.
Glad you were less anxious today. Strikes are proving an absolute pain as always. Add in weather conditions and signal failures and it is a nightmare for Joe Public. Glad you managed to get there and enjoyed it.
Just think how stressed we must have been before mobiles!,
Interesting to read about your mum & her covid jab…..we have to book ours yet but it’s our fifth & then another in the autumn…it makes you think do we need this one..
