23rd January 2023

I felt pretty awful this morning with a very painful neck and chest after yesterdays time ‘up the chimney’. I think the strange angle of my back has caused me some problems so I am dosing up with paracetamol and ibuprofen!

Despite not feeling 100%, today was planned for a number of months as I had arranged to see a friend whom I have not seen for over ten years and before that not for around twenty years! We had first met while we were doing a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Maidenhead and we were best friends.

It was very cold and frosty and the car took some time to scrape down. We headed to a pub called the Bat and Ball near Farnham as it was almost exactly half way between our houses. It was a misty drive with a number of diversions and a few wrong turns but we both made it for around 1.30pm.

Despite the length of time we spent the next three hours filling each other in on our lives. It was brilliant seeing Sarah again and we are planning to meet again in Spring when the weather is a little warmer.

We persuaded the bar man to take our photograph after a tasty lunch of (for me) a posh fish finger baguette and for Sarah a vegetarian curry. It was great that our views and outlooks are almost identical after all these years although she has had a much harder time of it with a divorce, death of her divorced husband and breast cancer. She has beaten everything and I am so pleased to have been in touch again.

A trip to Lidl before I finally got home after a special day.
