One more photo from my archive.

Those of you who already 'know' my Auntie Betty
( http://365project.org/quietpurplehaze/add-ins/2012-07-26) will not be surprised to see her 'in charge' of the two little boys here. Her mother is walking just behind her.

Her family (my father's) lived in The Street, Claydon, Suffolk. They moved there to be closer to the school as Betty had a weak heart..... My maternal grandparents also lived in The Street, Claydon and I have fond memories of Back Lane, the location of this photo, as my maternal grandfather used to take my sister and me for walks up there and over the fields every Sat morning. It's all built on now of course.
Good girl, Betty ... and doesn't her expression just say "I'm in charge!"?

Yes, Claydon is a different place now, although happily still not quite conjoined with the Ipswich sprawl.

It is delightful to look at these old snaps isn't it. We have a great many. My great parents had a bakery opposite to a photographer's studio. If she wanted to try out a new camera, piece of developing equipment, stage set or lights, she would slip across the road and ask my family to sit for her. The reward was a copy of the photo.

@wordpixman Yes, Betty definitely grasps life with both hands. I shall have to have a look at Claydon next time tIme I'm in Suffolk, haven't been to the 'village' for ages.

@w3n6y That sounds a lovely arrangement between the photographer and the baker. Shall we see some of yours?!

What a beautiful photograph! So much social history in it, the clothes, the agricultural scene and the way of life.
