For one of today's words 'apples and pears' which expression makes me think of the Cockney rhyming slang 'Up the apples and pears' = 'Up the stairs.' I saw these trees when we went to get eggs at the farm.
The tree on the left is a crab apple tree, although the fruit looks large because of the way I photographed it. The farmer told me that the tree on the right has 3 varieties of apples grafted on to to - but he's forgotten the names of all of them!
All that sun and rain this summer I guess!
