get pushed #136 - hands

"a photo of hands" is my challenge from my get-pushed partner this week, rachel withey @rachelwithey

i couldn't trick anyone into modeling their hands for me and i've been whacking me brain as to how i would have to shoot my hand and not call attention to the fact that they're really ugly pair of hands.

my youngest sister is an artist. four years ago, she gave me this drawing of "the praying hands" a painting by Albrecht Dürer which she had copied from a facsimile. several years ago, when she was a struggling single mother, she earned a living teaching english to young korean and japanese students in manila. she augmented her meagre income by selling her artwork and painting. one of the foreigners whose child she was tutoring asked her to make them a good copy of 'the praying hands'. that's how she started making several copies on thick paper and selling them afterwards. she did what Dürer did with his religious art works, by writing the story of 'the praying hands' at the back of her drawing.

for the story of 'the praying hands' you may visit this link if you are so inclined. http://www.barefootsworld.net/albrechtdurer.html
you forgot to put the link my dear, I like your hands, I'd like to hold them, i imagine they are warm

Your hands are not ugly by any means! I do like the juxtaposition of your hands against the drawing- wonderful contrast and great in sepia!

I know this is a famous painting - have seen it before. Your sister would say that the ones she does are copies, wouldn't she? Sounds as if she is good so she could do her own ''hands' with her own style and sell it as an original? Hey, I like your hands - soft and warm as @kali66 says!

Nice, working hands, that's what I would call them.....they look quick and nimble, and capable of doing a lot of things.....my hands are always an embarrassment as I forget to wear gloves when I do things like garden, or clean, or build things, but in some ways I am proud of them! You should be, too!

@kali66 - i've added the link, sorry for the faux pas. thank you, kali.

@olivetreeann - :-) sometimes ideas just present themselves and i am very good at resisting them albeit i wasn't aware they're staring at me right in the face. i was going to take a photo of the drawing but i figured the 'right' shot in the process.

@maggiemae - yes, my sister would tell people she just copied someone's work. mostly she drew then on order. thank you, maggiemae.

@panthora - thank you, osia. i used to have bony hands with lots of veins sticking out. then i learned they were that way because i had no fat on my body. now all i have are fat and arthritic hands. but these darn hands could type 120 words per minute and can take photos too! :-)

loved reading the story of the hands and your portrait is super.

Nothing ugly about these hands at all!! They are loving and giving like the hands in the drawing and full of character also like the hands in the drawing. I imagine they are sacrificial like the ones in the drawing too based on the information I have gleaned from your past stories! All that makes them magnificent hands worthy of being memorialized here or anywhere!

@salza - seriously, now? what does it say? :-) thank you, sally.

@barneyone - thank you, rita.

@grammyn - well, being the oldest girl in the family i learned to wash and iron clothes, clean the house and cook from an early age. ack! suddenly i'm tired just thinking about it! thank you, girlfriend!

You see how you interpret things, this is just wonderful; understated and poignant
As for hands, I have my Mothers and she is 90 I think they are like necks they show our age and let us down! ;0)
