the supplicant by summerfield

the supplicant

i feel guilty taking a photo like this. it is like invading the privacy of this supplicant, a homeless man, i believe, no matter that he was right in the middle of the path leading to the church steps. there were other people on both sides of him, but still. i consider communing with God a private thing. but the scene was irresistible. believe you me, i stood there on the pavement for the longest time deciding whether or not to shoot but when i realized he was about to stand up, i took the shot, albeit hastily.

for beau's @losthorizon september people challenge.
Very poignant capture. Always a dilemma as whether or not to take a picture of a homeless person.

Never hesitate - it's perfect! So much of a story here, and that's what makes a great picture for me!

That you gave it thought and told us the story makes it a valid capture for me. Had you just gone there's a "people pic" then perhaps not so valid

A beautiful moment. Lovely!

I understand those concerns about invading privacy but he was in a very public place and so probably not worried about who saw him! It is a very evocative image!

That is very interesting- the sign says the church is open, yet here he is outside. A sad soul and emotive capture.

@olivetreeann - i'm guessing, this is a united church and either the man was of a different church or he's catholic. thank you, ann.

I am glad you took this shot....very, very poignant!! Believe me, there are many, many times when I feel that I have crossed the line between decency and documentary, but I think it is a real fine one!!
